Do You Have Time to Speak with the Pharmacist? Initiating Conversations About Substance Abuse — 0481-0000-17-048-L04-P

After attending this seminar, the participants should be able to meet the following objectives:

• Discuss how and why the PharmD curriculum at PittPharmacy is designed to prepare students to address colleagues and patients at risk for substance misuse and abuse.

• Define the components of the Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) process.

• Present the definitions of a “standard drink” and low risk guidelines related to alcohol use. • Identify substance use risk through the use of validated screening instruments.
• Demonstrate the ability to use motivational interviewing skills to carry out a brief intervention. • Describe how SBIRT can assist in addressing opioid use.
